Event Projection were brought in to make Tinie Tempah’s new Music Video happen using a stack of projectors to project footage of the Rapper onto London buildings.
The creative called for a montage of Tiny’s previous video, appearances and news footage coupled with the rapper performing on a huge scale.

Before heading out to project the content, we had to shoot it. Tiny’s back catalogue was projected in the studio against a variety of surfaces whilst the singer was filmed. Some of this content was edited straight to the final cut where as other footage was edited to be projected the following night on the location shoot.

“The bigger the image, the bigger the projector”
The basis of the location shoot was simple – to make Tiny Massive! If the directors could have had it their way it would have been projected on a sky-scraper but sadly the producer and budget put an immediate stop to this. In terms of choice of projection equipment, there is a very simple rule to remember: “The bigger the image, the bigger the projector”. The question is, what do you do when you need an image bigger than the brightest projector can produce? Answer, you use more than one.
The XGA resolution Sanyo XF47 projectors are the brightest LCD machines available at 15000 ANSI Lumens. Used individually, for an outdoor film shoot we would not advise trying to create an image any larger that around 20’x15. Although we have brighter DLP machines, the XF’s were chosen for their low weight, size and power requirements, not to mention the cost saving.

Our XFs are always supplied in stacking frames that allows for quick, easy and precise stacking and flying. 3 machines were used to produce the largest of the images in the video, approximately 60×45′ in size.

Because the XF47’s can be run from a standard 13a socket, it was possible to run three from a modest sized generator, great when you’ve got 5 locations to shoot on a tight schedule!
The shoot was all going to plan when we headed to the final location around midnight, a 150′ tower in Notting Hill. This was to be the money shot and we had been waiting until late to avoid any interference from passers by.

Sadly, before the crew were ready to shoot, the mist descended and spoilt the fun. You can see the effect it had from the photos!
